About Us

The name “Citizens Church” captures the idea of a place where people who feel like they should not belong can belong. A place where believers can be united, built up, and built upon something ever ancient yet ever relevant with Jesus as the cornerstone, so that we would be built together into a community that would host the very Presence of God.

MEET OUR PAStOR

Jason Laird was born and raised in South Louisiana. He and his wife, Jennifer, met as high school sweethearts. Today, they have been married for over 18 years and enjoy life with their 2 incredible sons, Liam and Nixon, and beautiful daughter, Novy. They are passionate about sports, the outdoors, good food and, of course, friends and family.

What started as a calling to ministry in the year 2000, has led Jason to 23 years of serving in pastoral roles at premiere churches across the U.S.

The Lairds have a heart for building the Kingdom of God through the local church and have devoted their lives for the last 2 decades to reaching the lost, serving the hurting, raising leaders and expanding the Church.

In addition to leading and planting churches, Jason also founded and leads ‘Sidecar Leader’, an organization that coaches Lead Pastors and Executive Teams that are building the local church. He also serves as a coach and trainer for ARC, a church-planting organization that has planted over 1000 life-giving churches in the United States.

OUR STORY

Over the years, God began to give us a vision for a new church with the mission to help people FIND and FOLLOW Jesus. A vision we later began calling Citizens Church.

Throughout the process, one of the most common questions we’ve been asked is “Why Tennessee?”

For us, the answer is clear. The Greater Nashville Area is a rapidly expanding and rapidly progressing region, set against the backdrop of one of the most uniquely beautiful landscapes in our country, with the allure of both vibrant cities and breathtaking rolling hills.

But all that beauty and all that progress can’t hide the brokenness that many in our state experience.

It’s an area filled with people who have real issues, real challenges, real struggles. People who have yet to discover the kind of life that Jesus died for them to live.

Middle Tennessee is one of the fastest growing regions in America. Nearly 100 people are moving to the area per day.

Many would tell you that the deck is stacked against church planters in today’s cultural moment. Statistics would tell you the same.

But we believe God is writing a new narrative.

And where others see obstacles, we see the opportunities. As Paul said, we believe there’s a “wide open door of opportunity for effective ministry” in this amazing region. I love the response of Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 13.

Where many couldn’t see past the hurdles and wanted to run from the assignment, Joshua and Caleb carried the attitude summed up in their reply: “FOR WE ARE WELL ABLE.”

Well able to step into the calling of God. Well able to face the challenges head-on. Well able to help people KNOW GOD, FIND COMMUNITY, FOLLOW JESUS and MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We are able because HE is able.

Middle Tennessee is on the verge of something significant. We know God’s heart is toward this region and its people.

And we are excited to play our part in the big things He has in store.

Every significant vision requires significant commitment and significant investment. We recognize that this undertaking is too big for us to do alone.

Would you join us? Would you prayerfully consider if God would have you play a part in reaching Middle Tennessee, specifically Williamson County, with the life-transforming power of the Gospel?

Our vision is clear and our mission is simple… we’re committed to building a church that helps anyone and everyone we meet, FIND and FOLLOW Jesus.

We’re giving our best to this mission.

Let’s Go!

OUR BELIEFS

Our Statement of Faith are biblically-rooted beliefs that we’ve come to embrace through study, prayer, dialogue, and experience. These beliefs shape our theology, preaching, and practice as a church. We know that not everyone will affirm or align with every belief – and that’s okay. We just want to be clear and communicate who we are and what we believe. All we ask is that if you cannot agree or affirm these beliefs that you commit to unity rather than disunity in the church.
